Law Reform & Advocacy
In consultation with legal aid clinics and tenant/housing advocacy groups, ACTO is setting priorities for the law reform and advocacy work that will have a broad impact on the housing issues facing low-income tenants, co-op members and homeless persons.
ACTO's work in this area includes:
- seeking legislative amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act to ensure justice for tenants
- advocacy with all levels of government to preserve existing rental housing supply and to build new, affordable rental housing
- seeking fair treatment for tenants before the Landlord & Tenant Board.
- joint action with social justice and housing advocacy groups for a long term solution to homelessness
