The Tenant Duty Counsel Program (TDCP) is a program of ACTO, funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We fund 30 legal clinics across the province to provide regional TDCP services. This means that if you sign up for legal advice, a TDC from the region where the rental unit is located, will call you.
TDC Staff provide free and confidential summary legal advice to unrepresented tenants. While TDC Staff won’t represent you at the hearing, TDC can advise you about the law, your options, and how the hearing process will unfold so that you are better prepared for your hearing. As we are not affiliated with the Landlord and Tenant Board, we don’t have access to the application or any evidence that has been filed, so please have your hearing documents on hand.
TDC Staff try to attend as many hearings as possible. However, due to a high demand for our services, we cannot guarantee there will be TDC Staff on your hearing day to provide assistance. Therefore, we advise you to sign up ahead of your scheduled hearing so TDC staff can contact you beforehand. Note that TDC Staff prioritize advising tenants on eviction applications.
For low-income tenants, help is provided by community legal clinics, located in each major town or city. Find your legal clinic.
